Greg Mangus~ "Joe Bass and I had been playing with Detroit Kenny Olson, we started talking about doing a Bad Company thang about the same time I started to play with Sandy Gennaro around town , I talked to Sandy and he was interested................One night all three of us were doing a gig together and Scott Van Zen was in the audience and liked what he heard............Scott said he wanted to do a project, Desolation Angels came up, and he jumped in, remember, he and Joe had played with Brian Howe for quite some time, so, they knew the material! We all got in Sandy's studio not long after that and the minute we hit "Burning Sky" we knew we had something.............with this Salute to Bad Company everyone adds their own feel to the sound and it takes on a life of it's own"
MEET THE BAND
Desolation Angels is, without irony, a Nashville "supergroup." Made up of players who have truly shined in their own endeavors, whether as writers for major acts, players for major acts, or both...............Brought together out of a love of the material, mutual respect and a camaraderie that's apparent onstage. The good times they have, burning up those great Bad Company songs, spills off the stage and into the audience at every show...........Pour a drink and meet the boys in the band...........
SCOTT VAN ZEN
The recently released "Bad Company Live 1977-1979" was the template for the Desolation Angels' sound, singer Greg Mangus explains, "The minute I first heard that heavy groove of 'Burning Sky' kick in, I thought, that's how I want to play that material........that deep Simon Kirke pocket, with all that......that....FUNK underneath, of course Sandy & Joe were my first calls! Van Zen's perfect too because not a lot of guitar players can shred AND do all that rhythmic stuff that Mick played. Paul Rodgers is flat out a soul singer, the greatest, so I just try and mix him with some Wicked Pickett and my own growl and bring the spirit of that 70's Bad Company to life!"
